Avatar The Most Watchable Movie For The Christmas Holidays

By Tom Wilson

Avatar is a movie like no other out there, simply a masterpiece created by director James Cameron. It compares to his great blockbuster movies such as Titanic and the Terminator Series. Audiences who've watched the movie in 3-D have been truly amazed by the detail and realistic qualities of a film in which half of the characters are computer generated. Stunning visual effects and impressive use of 3-D graphics takes viewers out of their seats and puts them right into the movie. Remarkable imaginations and artistic qualities of everyone who has worked on creating the film set a new level in the film making industry.

Avatar is situated in the year 2154 and centered around a handicapped marine named Jake who lost his legs on a mission on Earth. The movie begins with Jake waking up from a 5 year trip to a moon called Pandora that is several light years away. He ended up signing up for a high-level corporate and military mission his brother Tom (who was a scientist) was working on and had died because he shared his genome structure.

The natives of Pandora are the navis, who are 10 feet tall creatures with sparkly blue skin, tails and many human-like features. The humans created human-navi hybrids which were used to communicate with the navis, known as the Avatar project, which can be controlled by humans. Jake is assigned his brother's Avatar and loves the motion of walking the first time he controls his Avatar since he misses the feeling of being able to walk.

The story continues as Jake tours Pandora under Colonel Miles Quartich's orders, Jake is to find out more about the navis and their way of life as a covert mission in order to obtain unobtanium. Obtaining Unobtanium is the main goal of the humans at Pandora as it is used for energy and is very rare on Earth. However, the leader of the Avatar Program, Dr. Grace Augustine leads Jake with a different goal in mind, which is to study the behaviour and ways of the navi in order to learn new things and try and find a diplomatic solution for the humans' needs to extract the unobtanium from deposits under their sacred "Hometree."

Jake's Avatar ends up finding his way to the navi tribe's home after getting separated from his friends when getting attacked by a vicious beast. He is found by a young female of the tribe Neytiri, who is also assigned to teach Jake the ways of the navi after he is accepted by the leaders of the tribe. This is where the audience is pleased with extremely realistic visual effects and computer generated graphics as we follow Jake's journey of learning which ends up making him fall in love with Neytiri.

This is where the real problem begins as the humans start advancing on the navis and attack them, and Jake battles with his emotions in which he ultimately sides with the navis and leads them in a battle against the humans to save the beauty and the ways of the navi which he has learned through his training process and which he holds more valuable than the humans' objectives. Again, the director uses fantastic 3-D effects and wows the audience and gives his audiences the most realistic experience possible .
