Performing Ideas

By Erin Garcia

Here are additional ideas and pointers that you can do in order to get yourself on the road to being a professional stand up comedian:

Make video clips of your performances. You need to be able to get back and look at how it turned out. There may be some things that you did not like and may need to have adjustments.

Were you moving a lot of? Were you talking too slow or perhaps too fast? Did you talk too loud? It could take you many viewings to know how one can enhance it.

Visit the clubs. If you are not ready for the comedy clubs yet, start off at spots that host open mic events. Nonetheless, in order to better your craft, go to some other comedy clubs to find out how other stand-up comedians perform.

It will be possible to observe and take notes. Eventually, you'll be able to connect with a few club owners once they get familiar with seeing your face into their place. You will also be able to go with other stand-up comedians.

Have a notebook handy when you're performing. You may end up getting suggestions for your stand-up routine at the last minute. In case you don't have a note pad, then you probably won't manage to keep your thoughts. The moment it strikes, jot it down in case you have not taken the stage yet.

Don't pull your feet on getting out there in front of a crowd. The more you place yourself out there, the more you will be able to do your job. In turn, it is possible to understand the ropes of stand-up comedy performances. It's actually much better to get more probabilities to perform since you may get more exposure.

If you screw up, keep going. Don't think that each time you perform your stand-up routine that the audience will fall in love with you. Sorry, but that is not the case. You can encounter what it feels like for people not to laugh at your humor because they feel that they are not funny.

You will observe the looks on their face that explain your performance was a total waste of time and they really want a refund. All you should do is move ahead, check out what exactly worked and what didn't. You may work even harder to have it right the next time.

One thing that may get you a name, which you really don't want-getting other's comedian's materials. Don't even think about doing it in any way, shape, form or fashion. Even if you're making use of the material with different words, leave it alone. Your own profession will become null and void and you will probably have bitten the dust very quickly.

If a promoter or club manager gives you a time slot, stick within that time frame. You might be overstepping your range and taking advantage of what was given to you.

That would certainly be considered rude, inconsiderate and unprofessional to go over your time limit.

There may be other acts following yours and they need to get on when it's their time.

Even if the audience is not really responding, that is not a reason to get more time than you're supposed to have. Rest assured you have possibly taken your opportunity at performing at their venue in the future.

Be nice to your audience. You need them to be receptive to you and laugh with your material. There is no need to be insulting. Simply because several other comedians do it, doesn't mean you need to be the status quo.
