Sublime Art And Resonance - Music For Kali

By Hans Havasi

This article is meant to inspire artists and creators alike, on how they can use a process called resonance to create. We will illustrate this in our case by giving an example of how one can create music on the tantric Goddess Kali. We will start with a description of Kali followed by a short description of the process of resonance (which in fact is a much deeper law than the law of attraction) and end by speaking about how a composer can use the law of resonance to make his creations.

Who is Kali?

Kali Ma is the first of the 10 mahavidya, or wisdom goddesses in the tantric tradition. She is portrayed with black skin, 4 arms, wide open glaring eyes, a necklace consisting of severed heads and dances on the graves in the cemetery her tongue lolling wildly out of her big wide open mouth, laughing at the attachments of us mortal humans.

Indeed she is a terrible goddess to behold, especially for those who are not initiated in her ways. But if you have courage and you dare to study and meditate subjects such as time and death her grace will be revealed to you!

About resonance

Tantra teaches us about the law of resonance which is in essence the law of attraction, just more profoundly described.

Everything in the universe consists of energy which vibrates with different frequency. Energies with similar frequencies will be attracted to each other and start a process of resonance together. In this process they will start to exchange information between them.

We are continually moving through different resonance spheres during the day and our moods and physical well being is continually being affected by these spheres. If we are in a place where the resonance is "angry" we will ourselves become angry.

If we are in a place with a hectic on edge vibe such as a football stadium watching an exciting game, we will for sure soak up that energy and resonate with it. If the place is serene and calm we in turn will become serene and calm.

A specific resonance can be inherent in a color, in a landscape or in a room with certain people etc. A resonance is not confined to one medium. A resonance of desolation could be in a landscape, a colour or in a room full of desolate people. Music is one of the most powerful conveyors of resonance.

For example, if you listen to heavy metal you will enter into states of rage, hatred and destruction. You will enter into a state of resonance with the people who made the music and the state that they were in when they made the music. You will enter into resonance with all the people who listen to that music and who resonate with that state. You will start downloading all their negativity and hatred.

On the other hand if you listen to harmonious, beautiful music you will go into resonance with harmony and beauty.

One of the quickest ways of entering into a state of meditation with a specific aspect is by meditating with music which has the resonance of that aspect, which is why music is so efficient in "jump starting" us to enter the desired mood.

Applying resonance in art

If you want to make music or art with a certain specific mood, you have to immerse yourself in that mood. You have to study it by looking at pictures and listening to music which conveys that mood. You have to act according to the mood as if it were already in you. In this way you will through the process of resonance, start to download the necessary information for the creation of the artwork.

Through contemplation of an object you can enter into a state of resonance with that object and you will be able to very precisely convey the mood inherent in the object to anybody else who contemplates your art. The art that has the deepest impact on people is the art which most precisely conveys the resonance the artist consciously immersed himself into while creating the artwork. This is the hidden secret to any great piece of art.

Applying this knowledge to create music with Kali

Contemplation upon Kali will lead you to pondering the mysteries of life, death and time. These are deep philosophical speculations which can be terrifying for those who cannot understand them.

The music composed by such a contemplation on Kali might therefore convey this mood of terror. Drones, asien tonalities and strong rhythmical elements can aid to these effects.

In the end though, Kali will lead he who contemplates on her to a deeper understanding of the nature of life and death which in turn will lead to a mystical opening of the heart. (These effects can be achieved by string quartets and melodic lines which lead upwards).

I hope that the article gave you a taste of what it is to be a tantric composer using the law of resonance to create artworks for Goddesses!
