Oblivion

By Patrick Daniels

Oblivion, for Playstation 3, is one of a handful of RPGs available for the system. It consists of a world, larger then a small country, and allows you to choose a character from ten different races and 2 different fighter types. You can choose to be a strong physical fighter or a mystical magical fighter. You choose all this prior to entering your quest and can change it up until you exit the tutorial levels.

Did I mention that the world is huge? Not only do you have access to a huge open world, you can transfer through the Oblivion gates, basically giving you a second world to explore. There are tons of enemies in these Oblivion worlds, plus the enemies on the over world. There are some places that are off limits for a while, you have to complete certain goals and objectives first, but there are tons of places to explore.

While walking through the forest you will discover ruins that have underground tunnels running under the countryside. Once you have discovered a ruin, or castle, you will gain the ability to warp between all discovered areas.

There are dozens of stats to level up and the day/night cycle keeps track of how much time you spend on your quest. Certain characters can only be found at night or during the day, they follow a timeline in their activities. Most places are closed at night and if you don't get rest and sleep, your health and stamina decreases.

Positives of the Game: The graphics are very good, the weapons are numerous, the main quest is available at all times and there are many side quests. The menu keeps track of all the different quests you are working on and lets you know when you have completed a quest. Negatives of the Game: The main story is not compelling! Although there is only one negative to the many positives, many will not want to play a game for fifty, or so, hours that has a bare minimal story.
